It is also the largest open air market in the Southern Hemisphere. Fitzroy Gardens Now it’s time to stretch your legs and take a look around the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens. Set on 26 hectares, these gardens were classified by the National Trust in 1974 and are highly valued for their historic and horticultural significance. Here you can visit the Conservatory for its incredible floral display, or the quaint Tudor Village. Captain Cook’s Cottage This lovely little cottage in the heart of Fitzroy Gardens was the original home of Captain James Cook’s parents. It has been carefully restored and maintained, filled with furniture of the period and surrounded by a garden of the 18th century. Here you’ll see many modern buildings alongside beautiful federation homes, many built in the late 1800s. As the South Gippsland Highway approaches the landscape becomes more rural with smaller townships and farming properties along the way. While Phillip Island is famous for its Little Penguin Parade, it also boasts an amazing coastline with ideal surf conditions and a huge range of wildlife. Another key attraction of Phillip Island is Australia’s Motorcycle Grand Prix track. You will visit The Phillip Island Visitor Information Centre:
The best advice about things to see and do comes from the people who live, work and play in an area. At the Phillip Island Visitor Information Centre visitors can book accommodation, purchase attraction tickets and get detailed advice about local activities and events.

Here you can relax and treat yourself to lunch (own expense) at one of the many cafés and restaurants, or you can join us at the Apollo Bay Hotel to enjoy an optional lunch with some great food and local hospitality.

Explore the incredible Twelve Apostles. These incredible limestone rock formations up to 45 metres high are the result of erosion that began up to 20 million years ago. Your Guide will share the history of their fascinating evolution while you take in the great spectacle of this natural wonder. If you find you can only count 8 Apostles and not 12 – test your Driver Guide’s knowledge as to why!! Scenic Walk There are many walks around the location of the Twelve Apostles providing closer access to the shoreline. From the cliff top viewing area you can absorb the grandeur of this iconic site and take some photographs.
You’ll visit the beautiful Loch Ard Gorge and learn about the ill-fated English ship ‘Loch Ard’. The gorge is named after the clipper ship Loch Ard which ran aground on nearby Muttonbird Island in 1878 approaching the end of a three-month journey from England to Melbourne. Of the fifty-four passengers and crew, only two survived. The arch of the nearby Island Archway collapsed in June 2009. The feature now appears as two unconnected rock pillars. They have since been officially named Tom and Eva after the two teenage survivors of the Loch Ard shipwreck.
